The new development

Reuters reported today that ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent requested over three million RTX PRO 5500 cards, worth above $35 billion at sticker prices. Fulfillment is uncertain. Those are reported orders, not recognized revenue.

A workstation product with AI ambitions

NVIDIA's own product page lists 84 GB of memory, LLM inference and agent workloads for the RTX PRO 5500. The specifications are preliminary and the page still describes availability as forthcoming. This matters because a professional workstation product can participate in the business of running trained models.

Every live AI service needs resources to generate answers. Our interpretation is that wider adoption can deepen the market across several hardware categories. A broad product line gives NVIDIA more ways to serve those workloads; it does not establish identical performance or economics across its chips.

A separately disclosed buyer

Tansun's October 13 filing discloses a contract to purchase 20,000 RTX PRO 5500 cards from an unnamed counterparty. AI inference is among the listed uses. The filing warns that supply, delivery and other factors can affect completion. It is a distinct procurement disclosure, not independent verification of the three companies' reported orders.

Our evidence comparison therefore has three levels: reporting on prospective large buyers, a manufacturer's preliminary product specifications, and a separate buyer's disclosed contract. Keeping those levels clear lets an investor see both the opportunity and what has actually been established.

The investment implication

Our take is that inference makes the AI hardware market broader than a race to build the largest training system. Increasing use of AI applications creates recurring demand for computation, and a workstation product can become economically important within that expansion.

The counterargument is that interest in a product does not determine the margin NVIDIA ultimately earns. Supply constraints, customer alternatives and realizable pricing still shape the business. A useful next check is completed deliveries and disclosed sales, followed by evidence of utilization. This note makes no earnings adjustment, price target or export-law conclusion.
